Profile - Neil Curran
I have taught at my present school for 11 years now after a period of teaching English as a Foreign Language in Asia and completing my PGCE in Aberdeen. During this time my roles have included Subject Leader for Citizenship and PSHEE, Subject Leader for German and I am currently Head of Languages.
I was appointed as an SLE in 2014 and since then I have been running a termly network meeting for languages. We have built up a successful and cooperative group, sharing strategies to maximise success for our pupils as well has hosting representatives from the exam board to help us with implementation of the new specifications. We also recently worked together to moderate our year 11 mock examinations.
I have marked for both Edexcel and AQA for several years and for the new specifications I have been marking the new writing paper for Edexcel and both speaking and writing for AQA. Part of the school support I have offered during my time as an SLE is helping schools to improve their pupils’ performance in examinations, using some of the expertise I have acquired by working as an examiner.
