Profile - Matt McGorry
I am a secondary English teacher with ten years of experience. I have spent my career teaching both language and literature to KS3 and KS4 students. I am currently a Lead Practitioner where I oversee the school's provision for LGBTQIA+ students as well as leading the school anti-racism programme. I am also a mentor who has helped train various ITTs and NQT over the past two years.
During my time at The Appleton School, I have worked as the Literacy Coordinator and the Gifted and Talented coordinator. I have helped implement various whole school initiatives and am particularly proud of leading Lexonix - a literacy program that raises reading ages and therefore improves literacy standards in all subjects.
I have a passion for closing the gap between male and female attainment and have led training sessions focusing on boys' attainment. I have also led BSTA training sessions on engaging boys and effective notetaking techniques.
