Profile - Gemma Thurston
I have taught in both infant and primary schools and in all year groups in Foundation and Key Stages 1 and 2. I have been in my current school for the past ten years working in all key stages.
During my career my roles have included English Leader, Curriculum leader, SENCo, Assessment Leader, Designated Safeguarding Leader, Attendance Leader, Children in Care Leader, Induction, Initial Teacher Training and NQT Leader as well as EYFS Leader.
In January 2015 I was promoted to Assistant Headteacher, after my school was placed in Special Measures, then promoted to Deputy Headteacher in September 2015. I currently support leaders and staff within my own school and within our Trust. I have worked closely with outside agencies, including the Specialist Teacher team to set up SEND provision and design and implement a curriculum to address the needs of pupils, whilst accelerating progress. I am especially passionate about ensuring our curriculum meets the social, emotional and mental health needs of our children.
I have mentored and coached senior leaders, teachers, those on ITT programmes and NQT’s. I provide support for teachers with leadership, planning, delivery of lessons and feedback as appropriate. I hold the NPQSL qualification and am currently undertaking my NPQH.
