STEM Paid Internship Programme 2018 for maths or physics undergraduates

tHE Benfleet Teaching School Alliance IS oFFERing MATHS OR PHYSICS UNDERGRADUATES IN THEIR PENULTIMATE YEAR A FOUR WEEK PAID INTERNSHIP IN An essex SCHOOL DURING JUNE/JULY 2018

 

As part of a government drive to attract undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance has received funding to support a 4-week paid internship programme to provide undergraduates with the opportunity to experience school life and the classroom environment.  The STEM internship programme aims to help undergraduates decide if teaching is for them and to support them in making a future ITT (initial teacher training) applications. 

 

Internship Progamme 

Over the course of a 4-week programme, successful applicants will take part in a number of activiites to give them an idea of different aspects of the teaching role within a school:

 

  • complete a research project on teaching & learning on a chosen focus
  • observe lessons within the department and be given time to reflect on what has been seen
  • be attached to a tutor to understand the pastoral role of a teacher
  • be assigned a mentor throughout the programme
  • track a SEN/EAL student across a day
  • attend staff meetings
  • have time allocated for skills test preparation
  • have time to reflect on the teaching practice they have seen and how it relates to the teacher's standards
  • visit a primary school
  • visit a sixth form
  • aim to teach part or whole of a lesson to a pre-agreed group
  • have the opportunity to work with small groups of students for intervention
  • be involved with extracurricular activities

 

Internship dates & times 

Induction day on Monday 11th June followed by 4-week programme completing on 6th July.

All interns will be expected to attend the programme for 4-weeks (8.15am - 4.00pm) at their assigned school.  

 

 

Paid Internship Programme

All interns will receive £300 per week for 4 weeks - paid in two installments and calculated on actual days attended. For full details of our internship programme, please click on the link below:
