The Benfleet Teaching School Alliance is pleased to advise members of the opportunity to attend Mental Health First Aid training locally provided by Castlepoint Association Voluntary Services (CAVS). The training is available to CAVS members only but membership is free of charge.
Their Mental Health First Aid training is an internationally recognised and accredited training course delivered by fully qualified MHFA Instructors. The course aims to give delegates the knowledge, skills and understanding to identify symptoms and support yourself and others experiencing mental health problems.
During the two day course delegates will learn about, discuss and take part in group and individual activities covering:
- common mental health problems
- the 5 steps of mental health first aid
- anxiety disorders
- panic attacks
- psychotic disorders
Delegates will learn how to:
- recognise symptoms of mental health problems
- provide initial help and support
- support someone to cope with a crisis situation
- help prevent someone from hurting themselves and others
- help prevent a mental health problem getting worse
- guide a person towards appropriate professional help
- knowledge of the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychosis
- knowledge and confidence to support people experiencing mental health problems to seek the right help
- knowledge and confidence to help somone who is feeling suicidal
- the importance of understanding your own self care
On completion of the two day course, delegates will receive an MHFA manual and certificate of attendance plus the opportunity to become an InterAct MHFA Associate.

Please can all delegates ensure they arrive at their destination 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the event. This will allow time for delegates to sign in at reception and be escorted to the meeting room.
BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS
Should delegates wish to cancel a place on a course you must notify the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance Manager, Denise Mair at DeniseM@thekjs.com.
Failure to attend a course will be considered a cancellation and as such no refund will be offered. If you cancel a place on a fee-paying course within four working weeks, 50% of the fee paid will be reimbursed. Cancellations received within two working weeks will incur the full fee paid. Non-attendance of funded or free places without notification of extenuating circumstances within 48 hours will result in a charge to the school/organisation of £35 per session. Please inform us if you are unable to attend as this may allow another delegate to attend in your place.
