The Benfleet Teaching School Alliance and TES Institute provide schools with an Appropriate Body to oversee the induction of NQTs. As an accredited Appropriate Body, we offer support and training to enable all schools to meet the requirements.
Designed and facilitated by experienced school leader/ITT coordinators from the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance, our NEW "NQT Programme 2020/21" provides support and development for NQTs to build good practice and explore research to positively influence teaching and learning both in and outside the classroom.
This 5-session programme aims to develop confidence and support retention of new teachers and maintain the network of support to ensure future progression.
- Five twilight sessions (4.00pm-5.30pm) to develop teaching and learning, classroom practice and student support strategies
- Sessions take place over academic year (October 2020 - June 2021)
- Course facilitator: Robin Launder, external specialist to deliver key training and support for NQTs

This training is provided free of charge to all our NQT Appropriate Body member schools ONLY. Training is suitable for both primary and secondary phases.

Behaviour Management by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)
Robin provides evidenced-based behaviour management, evidenced-based teaching strategies and evidenced-based methods to motivate students. And, of course, because it’s evidenced-based, it works.
This session looks at averting misbehaviour and nipping-it-in-the-bud should it start. It’s packed with theory, evidence and lots and lots of practical approaches and strategies.

Mindset Theory by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)
The mindset session is often described as ‘inspirational’ by those that see it. Robin has delivered mindset training across the country and abroad. It is fun, informative and motivational. It covers what exactly the theory says, why it’s important and how it can transform teaching and learning. Robin runs sessions for staff, for students and parents to develop a growth mindset approach, in school and out.

The Teacher-Student Relationship by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)
More than any other factor, it is the quality of the teacher-student relationship that underpins the success – or otherwise – of what happens in the classroom. It underpins student learning, student behaviour, student progress, student satisfaction … even the students’ likelihood of taking the subject forward into sixth form, or from sixth form into university connects to the quality of their relationship with the teacher. Not only that, it also links to teacher job satisfaction and teacher retention rates. It is something, then, that needs to be got right. This powerful 90-minute session will tell you how. It is based on robust science and eye-opening research.

Memory and metacognition by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)
Learning is memory – or to put it another way, if what we teach doesn’t enter the long-term memory of our students then actually we haven’t taught them anything. So, then, how can we hack the memory process so that learning (and progress, achievement and better grades) can happen? This session will show you how. It will give you the up-to-date neuroscience (in very manageable and memorable chunks) and link that neuroscience to specific teaching approaches and strategies. This session gets to the very heart (well, the brain) of how to teach effectively - it is crucial CPD!

Better Behaviour 2.0 by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)
Behaviour 2.0 is a follow-up session to Better Behaviour. It will recap some of the important ideas from the first session, while at the same time developing those ideas. In other words, it will recap and extend upon the themes of teacher self-control, prevention of misbehaviour, and the correction of misbehaviour. As before, there will be a useful balance of behaviour management theory and ready-to-use strategies. The session will also consider the effective use of consequences, not least the question of when to use a correction and when to use a consequence. As before, the session is appropriate for both primary and secondary teachers, novice through to experienced, main scale through to SLT.
This session will take place online via Zoom. Please ensure that you have received joining instructions, including an ID number and password, prior to the session.

Use of Zoom
For those of you that may not have used Zoom before, please load the app onto your chosen devise then simply click on the session link provided or select “Join meeting” and type in the ID number and password provided. Remember to activate your video and audio so that you can be seen and heard by everybody and select gallery view (tap on top left of tablets for this option or swipe right on mobiles) so that you can see other participants and your facilitator.
Please can all delegates ensure they arrive at their destination 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the event. This will allow time for delegates to sign in at reception and be escorted to the meeting room.
BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS
Should delegates wish to cancel a place on a course you must notify the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance Manager, Denise Mair at DeniseM@thekjs.com.
Failure to attend a course will be considered a cancellation and as such no refund will be offered. If you cancel a place on a fee-paying course within four working weeks, 50% of the fee paid will be reimbursed. Cancellations received within two working weeks will incur the full fee paid. Non-attendance of funded or free places without notification of extenuating circumstances within 48 hours will result in a charge to the school/organisation of £35 per session. Please inform us if you are unable to attend as this may allow another delegate to attend in your place.
