Behaviour Management by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)

Robin provides evidenced-based behaviour management, evidenced-based teaching strategies and evidenced-based methods to motivate students. And, of course, because it’s evidenced-based, it works.

Mindset Theory by Robin Launder (Behaviour Buddy)

The mindset session is often described as ‘inspirational’ by those that see it. Robin has delivered mindset training across the country and abroad. It is fun, informative and motivational. It covers what exactly the theory says, why it’s important and how it can transform teaching and learning. Robin runs sessions for staff, for students and parents to develop a growth mindset approach, in school and out.

Anti-bullying by The London Bus Theatre Company

Bullying in all its forms can spread through peer groups insidiously, even driving some children to attempt to take their own lives. The London Bus Theatre Company workshop considers many issues including racism, cyberbullying, exclusion, why people bully and where and how children can get help if being bullied.

Bristol Old Vic trained workshop leaders ensure that the whole experience is both exciting and devastatingly instructive, offering sound advice gathered from years of experience. Many schools have reported a reduction in bullying after the workshops.

Understanding and supporting students to overcome exam stress by Dr Jo Steer
Author of  Supporting Kids and Teens with Exam Stress in School

As young people are exposed to more and more pressure at school, exam stress comes hand in hand. This workshop offers teachers tried and tested techniques to support young people's wellbeing through revision and exams. Applying a cognitive behavioural framework, you can help pupils to consider academic stress in terms of thoughts, feeling, body sensations and behaviour. Strategies encompass helping students to manage their lifestyle, tried and tested CBT techniques, relaxation, positive self-talk and thought challenging, and other psychological methods such as mindfulness. The workshop will also evaluate stress in children with special educational needs and provide practical advice to successfully support them. the session will guide teachers to conquer students' fears, improve exam performance and, perhaps most important of all, maintain a work-fun balance in young people's lives.

Wednesday 10th June 2020 (4.00pm-5.15pm)

Memory and metacognition by Robin Launder

Learning is memory – or to put it another way, if what we teach doesn’t enter the long-term memory of our students then actually we haven’t taught them anything. So, then, how can we hack the memory process so that learning (and progress, achievement and better grades) can happen? This session will show you how. It will give you the up-to-date neuroscience (in very manageable and memorable chunks) and link that neuroscience to specific teaching approaches and strategies. This session gets to the very heart (well, the brain) of how to teach effectively - it is crucial CPD!

This event is held at The Appleton School:
