The Benfleet Teaching School Alliance are delighted to announce their NEW EYFS programme for 2018/19.

The programme will take place between November 2018 – April 2019 at Woodham Ley Primary School and consist of 6 twilight sessions. 

The programme aims to develop and inspire all EYFS leaders/teachers/LSAs and pre-school/nursery practitioners and build a local network of support and guidance. Our programme is designed and facilitated by an experienced EYFS school leader/SLE from the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance to enhance EYFS teaching and learning and assist practitioners with phonics, writing, outdoor studies, promoting positive interactions and successful transition. 

The programme sessions will take place on a monthly basis as follows: (for further details please select our Sessions tab above):

Thursday 24th January 2019          Promoting writing in the early years: Part 2
Thursday 28th February 2019        Developing positive adult-child interactions in the EYFS
Thursday 28th March 2019            Getting the most out of the outdoors
Thursday 25th April 2019               How to organise successful transitions for EYFS children
Thursday 23rd May 2019               Phase 1 Phonics

Thursday 22nd November 2018 - Promoting Writing in the Early Years: Part 1

Session 1 – Looks at how writing can be taught in the Early Years in a way which enthuses and engages children so that they become eager, independent writers, ready for the challenges in Year 1.

Thursday 24th January 2019 - Promoting Writing in the Early Years: Part 2

Explores how story-acting can motivate children to write in addition to supporting them develop their social interactions and communication skills.

Thursday 28th February 2019 - Developing Positive Adult-Child Interactions in the EYFS

Explore the importance of positive adult-child interactions and their role in supporting children to achieve their next steps.  We will examine what makes interactions successful in order to further develop children’s learning during child-led activities.

Thursday 28th March 2019 - Getting the Most out of the Outdoors

The outdoor environment is a vital part of the EYFS provision.  This session will examine what makes a stimulating and inviting outdoor environment, including a brief introduction to woodwork. We will explore how to ensure the outdoors is easily accessible to all children with minimum daily adult preparation.

Thursday 25th April 2019 - How to Organise Successful Transitions for EYFS Children

An overview of how to implement smooth transitions for children starting school and those moving on to Year 1.  A look at how stress and anxiety for both parents and children can be eased in order to provide the best possible start to school.

Thursday 23rd May 2019 - Phase 1 Phonics

A look at the importance of Phase 1 Phonics and how this provides the foundations for further phonics teaching.  Practical examples on how to implement these sessions in pre-school, nursery and Reception class settings as well as guidance on how to assess when the children are ready to move on to the next phase.

Please come to the main reception on Rushbottom Lane to sign in and you will be escorted to the meeting room. 

Please can all delegates ensure they arrive at their destination 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the event.  This will allow time for delegates to sign in at reception and be escorted to the meeting room.


Should delegates wish to cancel a place on a course you must notify the Benfleet Teaching School Alliance Manager, Denise Mair at DeniseM@thekjs.com. 

Failure to attend a course will be considered a cancellation and as such no refund will be offered. If you cancel a place on a fee-paying course within four working weeks, 50% of the fee paid will be reimbursed. Cancellations received within two working weeks will incur the full fee paid. Non-attendance of funded or free places without notification of extenuating circumstances within 48 hours will result in a charge to the school/organisation of £35 per session. Please inform us if you are unable to attend as this may allow another delegate to attend in your place.
